Does Size Matter?
Often clients focus on the number of “likes” on their facebook page, or the amount of twitter followers they have and tell me they want to see an increase immediately. Unfortunately, a page can have thousands of followers, but it all comes down to one thing: engagement. The purpose of engagement is to benefit the business, brand, your customers, peers, and any possible prospects at every possible opportunity. Engagement has many dimensions within social media, but it is certainly about building relationships and reciprocity. This doesn’t happen by tweeting or facebook alone. It takes time, energy and most definitely is not free. A few questions:
- Are your followers coming back to your page, responding to your posts, interacting with you, or are they simply never returning again?
This is why the actual number itself can be deceiving and does not necessarily mean anything.
So, before you get too concerned about the size of your follower list, keep engagement in mind and the value behind those “likes.” ;)
